Therapy & Counseling

You don't have to keep being the strong one for everyone else.

You may be the person everyone depends on. You get things done, show up for your family, succeed professionally, and keep moving even when you're exhausted.

From the outside, everything may look fine.

But internally, you may be overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, stuck in your head, struggling in your relationships, or wondering why something that seems like it "shouldn't" bother you still does.

Therapy can give you a place to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and begin creating a life that feels more authentic and manageable.

At Still Waters Therapeutic Services, we provide individual, couples, and family therapy using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered approach.

Who We Work With

I work with teens and adults who are navigating emotional, relational, and life challenges that may be affecting how they feel, function, and connect with others.

You may be:

  • A high-functioning professional who is successful on the outside but overwhelmed on the inside

  • The person everyone turns to when they need help

  • Experiencing anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or imposter syndrome

  • Struggling with depression, low motivation, or emotional exhaustion

  • Processing childhood or relational trauma

  • Navigating family or relationship conflict

  • Adjusting to a major life transition

  • Struggling with boundaries or difficulty saying no

  • Questioning your identity, purpose, or direction

  • Trying to balance your own needs with the expectations of family, work, or culture

  • Finding yourself repeating relationship patterns you don't understand

  • Ready for change but unsure where to begin

You don't have to wait until things feel unbearable to seek support.

How Therapy Can Help

Therapy isn't about simply talking about what's wrong. It's about developing a deeper understanding of yourself and learning how to respond differently.

Together, we may work on:

Anxiety & Overthinking

Learn to recognize patterns of worry, rumination, perfectionism, and self-doubt while developing healthier ways to manage anxious thoughts and emotions.

Depression & Emotional Exhaustion

Explore the experiences and thought patterns contributing to sadness, hopelessness, disconnection, or loss of motivation while developing practical strategies for moving forward.

Trauma & PTSD

Understand how past experiences may continue affecting your emotions, relationships, sense of safety, and reactions in the present.

Relationships & Communication

Develop healthier communication, boundaries, conflict-resolution skills, and relationship patterns while gaining greater understanding of yourself and others.

Life Transitions

Whether you're changing careers, navigating a relationship, becoming a parent, adjusting to an empty nest, experiencing a major loss, or simply realizing that your current life no longer feels right, therapy can provide space to process the transition and determine what comes next.

Self-Esteem, Identity & Imposter Syndrome

Explore the gap between how capable you appear to others and how you actually feel inside. Therapy can help you develop greater self-trust, confidence, and clarity about who you are and what you want.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy provides a confidential space to focus on you.

Our work may involve exploring your history, understanding current patterns, processing difficult experiences, strengthening coping skills, and identifying the changes you want to make.

I don't believe therapy should be a passive experience where you simply talk while your therapist listens.

I believe therapy should be collaborative, honest, and purposeful.

I'll listen, ask questions, offer perspective, teach skills, and gently challenge you when it may help you move forward.

Couples & Family Therapy

The people we love can also be the people who push our buttons the most.

Couples and family therapy provides a structured space to understand what is happening within the relationship rather than simply focusing on who is right or wrong.

We may work on:

  • Communication

  • Conflict

  • Trust

  • Boundaries

  • Family expectations

  • Unresolved issues

  • Emotional connection

  • Changing unhealthy relationship patterns

  • Understanding different perspectives

The goal is to create healthier ways of relating while helping each person better understand their own needs and responsibilities within the relationship.

My Approach to Therapy

Trauma-Informed

Your responses developed within the context of your experiences. We work to understand those experiences without judgment while building healthier ways of coping and responding.

Culturally Responsive

Culture, family, identity, values, and community can influence how we understand ourselves and how we experience mental health.

Therapy should make room for those realities rather than expecting you to leave them at the door.

Person-Centered

You are more than a diagnosis or a list of symptoms.

Our work considers your strengths, experiences, relationships, values, goals, and the life you want to create.

Practical & Collaborative

Insight is important, but knowing why you feel a certain way isn't always enough.

Therapy may include practical tools, coping strategies, communication skills, reflection exercises, and other approaches that help you apply what you're learning outside of sessions.

My clinical experience includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused approaches, and mindfulness/meditative techniques, which may be incorporated based on your needs and treatment goals.

What Is the First Session Like?

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've never been in therapy before.

The first few sessions are an opportunity for us to get to know each other, understand what brought you to therapy, discuss your goals, and determine whether we are a good fit.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin.

You simply need to be willing to start the conversation.

From there, we'll work together to develop goals and identify the tools and strategies that can support your progress.

What Makes Still Waters Different?

I believe therapy should be a place where you can be fully human.

You don't have to perform.

You don't have to have the perfect explanation.

You don't have to minimize what you're experiencing because someone else "has it worse."

You can bring your questions, contradictions, frustration, humor, uncertainty, and hopes into the room.

My role is to help you understand yourself more deeply, recognize your strengths, challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and move toward the life and relationships you're working to create.

With more than 14 years of experience in the counseling profession, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, professionals, and individuals across a variety of mental health settings. I am licensed in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Therapy for the Person Behind the Success

You can be successful and still struggle.

You can love your family and still need boundaries.

You can be strong and still need support.

You can be grateful for your life and still want something to change.

Therapy gives you permission to explore those things without judgment.

You don't have to figure everything out alone.
